Explore one of the Caucasus’ most fascinating cities on a guided tour of Tbilisi, where centuries of history meet vibrant modern culture. Your journey begins at the historic Metekhi Church, offering panoramic views across the Old Town’s maze of winding streets, colourful wooden balconies and distinctive architecture.

Continue on foot through the heart of the city, discovering landmarks including Sioni Cathedral, the ancient Anchiskhati Church, the historic Caravanserai, the city’s synagogue, the striking Peace Bridge and the enchanting Marionette Theatre.

A scenic cable car ride from Rike Park carries you up to the impressive Narikala Fortress, where sweeping views stretch across the city below. The day concludes in the atmospheric Abanotubani district, home to Tbilisi’s famous sulphur baths, recognised by their elegant brick domes and colourful mosaic facades.

Travel east into the renowned Kakheti region, the heart of Georgia’s centuries-old winemaking tradition, to visit the beautiful Tsinandali Estate.

Once the residence of the distinguished Georgian poet and public figure Alexander Chavchavadze, the estate combines elegant 19th-century architecture with landscaped European-style gardens and a historic wine cellar housing some of Georgia’s oldest bottled wines. The estate offers a fascinating insight into the country’s rich cultural heritage, artistic legacy and celebrated wine traditions.

Today’s journey begins in Mtskheta, Georgia’s ancient capital and one of the country’s most spiritually significant destinations.

Visit the magnificent Jvari Monastery, dramatically positioned on a hilltop overlooking the confluence of two rivers, before continuing to the remarkable Svetitskhoveli Cathedral. Dating from the 11th century, this masterpiece of medieval architecture is believed, according to tradition, to house the robe of Christ. Both monuments are recognised as UNESCO World Heritage Sites.

Leaving Mtskheta behind, travel south through an ever-changing landscape. Dense forests gradually give way to the striking volcanic plateau of Javakheti, where rugged scenery and wide-open vistas reveal another side of Georgia’s remarkable natural beauty.

Overnight: Borjomi

Begin the day at the historic Château Mukhrani, whose origins date back to the 16th century. Explore the beautifully preserved estate, including the former royal residence and its atmospheric wine cellar, where traditional Georgian winemaking techniques are celebrated alongside internationally recognised methods. A tasting of the estate’s acclaimed wines offers the perfect introduction to one of the world’s oldest wine-producing regions.

Later, continue to the extraordinary cave city of Uplistsikhe, one of Georgia’s most remarkable archaeological treasures. Carved directly into the sandstone cliffs overlooking the Kura River, this ancient settlement has origins stretching back thousands of years and once flourished as a major stop along the Silk Road.

As you explore its network of caves, temples, dwellings, ceremonial halls and ancient streets, you’ll discover a fascinating window into Georgia’s early civilisation and the ingenuity of those who created this unique rock-hewn city.
